Circumcision and Foreskin:
Circumcision and Foreskin:
Circumcision is the removal of the foreskin of a penis. It can be done for baby or an adult, but is most common in babies. Before it is done the parent needs to treat the foreskin with care.
Your baby’s penis should be washed like any other body part when you bathe him. Regularly clean under the foreskin. Wash his penis with soap and rinse it.
Do not forcibly pull back the foreskin. This may cause pain, bleeding, infection or scarring.
Change your son’s wet or dirty diapers without any delay to reduce the risk of infection.
Retract the foreskin for cleaning once you have separated it. Roll the foreskin back over the glans afterward.
Once the circumcision procedure is done care will be given to the penis. A dressing in the form of petroleum jelly will be applied on it and a gauze will wrap around it.
When the infant urinates, the dressing falls off. The area will heal within a few days after which the gauze can be removed. It is important to keep the penis clean during this period. Use soap and water to keep the penis clean, especially to remove any faeces that get on it.
It takes a little over a week for the penis to completely heal. Please speak to your doctor if your baby has any lingering complications.
Cracked Foreskin:
A cracked foreskin happens when the skin on the foreskin of the penis dries, gets irritated and becomes cracked. Cracked foreskin can be caused by poor hygiene, using poor quality soaps and detergents and medical conditions such as psoriasis or eczema.
Symptoms of a cracked foreskin include redness, itching, pain, swelling and fissures or cracks in the skin. The cracks may be visible on the foreskin or may be too small and only cuts or tears. This condition can be uncomfortable and may make it difficult or painful to engage in sexual activity or urination.
Circumcision is a treatment for cracked foreskin. This includes different kinds of circumcision procedures such as traditional, stapler and laser circumcision. Good hygiene practices, such as cleaning the penis regularly and drying it thoroughly, can help prevent the recurrence of a cracked foreskin
