Treatments for Phimosis:
Phimosis is a condition that affects the penis that causes the foreskin to be unable to be pulled back. It is primarily an issue in male children, but sometimes can affect adult men. Your penis may have rings around the tip.
Phimosis in boys can go untreated, because it is a natural phenomenon and resolves on its own as they get older. However, sometimes phimosis can interfere with erections or urination. In such cases you should get your son to see a doctor and if as an adult you have phimosis, then you too should tell a doctor.
These are some of the treatments offered for phimosis:
- Surgery:
If you or your child has phimosis, their healthcare provider might do a surgery. They will probably recommend you get a circumcision. This procedure will completely end the problem by removing the foreskin and freeing the glans.
Non-surgical Treatments for Phimosis:
There are treatments for phimosis that are non-surgical, such as:
- Steroid cream:
Your healthcare provider may suggest a steroid cream that can be applied to the skin of your penis. You need to gently stretch the foreskin while you use the steroid cream. You can put the cream on the part of the glans that is exposed by the stretching.
- Coconut oil:
Coconut oil is a great home remedy for phimosis. Apply coconut oil on the penis and carefully stretch and retract the foreskin while pouring warm water. Lubrication with coconut oil is prevents the foreskin from overstretching.
- Castor oil
Castor oil can also cure phimosis. Because of it’s thick and viscous nature, castor oil can nourish the foreskin and make it easier to retract. Lubricating the penis with this oil will save you from the pain and scarring.
- Penile hygiene
Maintaining good penile hygiene is an effective measure to treat phimosis. You must clean your penis daily with warm water and then dry it. It is important to keep the area under your foreskin clean.
Why Phimosis Must be Treated:
If phimosis is not treated it can lead to further issues. These include:
- Difficulty urinating.
- Painful erections.
- Balanitis, an inflammation of the penis glans.
